I am adding an addition to my home. Having workmen around each day is a very different experience. I am used to my quiet, peaceful home. On the top floor of this addition there will be a meditation room. There is sense of peace each day as I go out and see what has been created that day.

Hopefully I will be able to see the ocean and Mauna Kea from there. Right now here is my view. I also ordered an awesome angel in the moon weather vane for the top.

Here in Hawaii there is a wonderful tradition each Memorial Day. They do a ceremony in Honolulu called the Lantern Floating. It is beautiful. They hand make lanterns to honor the memory of those who have ‘changed address’ either in conflicts or as part of the life cycle. Each year as I watch it I am, deeply moved. This year I will be honoring the spirit of my father and my second mother.

I find this ceremony extremely moving and very powerful. I share these videos in hopes that you can feel the power and love as well.

What is it you would like to create this year? And are you willing to focus your attention in a different way to get it?

For any real change to occur in our lives we need to change our thinking. Your old way of thinking created what currently exists in your life and if you want to create something else you need to learn to think and feel differently. It is very simple. It is much like learning a new language. It is simple and it takes concerted effort and practice.

The basic question is are you willing to put forth the necessary effort to make it so? I’ve found that most of us have the ability to make ourselves sufficiently miserable to become willing to put forth that effort. The biggest difference in my life today is I listen to the gentle whispers and then change. I no longer have to wait for trauma, drama or a hurricane to decide it is time to make a different choice.

So this year perhaps experiment with being willing to do whatever it takes to create the life of your dreams. My life truly is magical and I am so glad I took the necessary steps and changed my filter system so I could make it so. Here is a video I made with images from my life.

May 2009 bring you everything you could possible want or need with ease!

When I was a young girl I hated Sundays. My parents would always have a fight and then my dad would storm out of the house. He would go hang out with his buddies, playing hand ball and drinking while my mom spent the day entertaining her mom and dad. Come to think of it I never heard them say they were sorry, make up or act loving toward one another.

Today it is raining and the house is quiet. My dad just woke up and gave me a sweet smile on his way to the bathroom. At this stage his Alzheimer’s is changing him into a sweet, kind little boy.

I changed the way I felt about Sundays by Recapitulating and by creating my own Sunday rituals. I usually go to the Makuu Farmer’s Market, but due to the rains they are closed today.

I woke up angry this morning, something I haven’t done in a long time. At least today I know all of my emotions are self generated and not ‘real’ or valid. As I drove to the farmer’s market I saw the most beautiful rainbow. When I found out they were closed I laughed. I could have used it as an excuse to continue being angry or to simply enjoy the drive and the rainbow.

The stronger my emotional reactions the more freedom I have when I finally see the limiting belief that are creating the emotions. Today I saw that my little control urchin had reared her angry head so I invited her to take a long nap.

Most of the people on the Big Island have catchment water. We catch rain water since we have no municipal water. I drove by a water truck parked by the side of the road advertising its services. I thought, “Not much business today.” When it hasn’t rained for a while and water tanks are getting empty finding someone to deliver is quite a chore.

The tide is in and the tide is out. Floods are followed by droughts followed by rain. Life is a journey best savored in the moment, no matter what the moment contains. I am dedicated to building a well in Africa where people have no clean water. It is amazing how all these events are linked together into the incredible gift of my life.

With love and aloha,
Susan

The quality of our lives is often dictated by the type of questions we ask ourselves. If we ask ourselves why something happened to us we often feel like a victim. If instead we ask ourselves what we want and how can we make a difference we empower ourselves to create what we want.

A great exercise is to pay attention to the questions you ask internally. Notice, expand your awareness of your inner dialog so you can change it.

Some of the most useful questions I have found are:

How else can I see this?

What would love do or Jesus or Buddha or the Virgin Mary?

How can I see the perfection in this?

What do I want to create right now?

What is the gift in this situation?

Here is a video I just made. I hope you enjoy it and if you like it, please pass it on to your friends.

With love and aloha,

In my work I often talk about the difference between dominion and domination. Society is based on domination. The way our mind thinks is most often based on domination: black and white, right and wrong, good and evil, positive emotions and negative ones. Symbolically this is represented as a line.

As we deepen our connection with our spirit, with our true nature we move into dominion. Symbolically dominion is represented as a sphere. For anyone who loves looking words up in the dictionary, like I do, these paradigms have very little to do with the literal translations of the words and everything to do with the energy component. How the paradigms feel in your body when you live them. Miguel talks about seeing the world through the eyes of the angels. Living in the world from a place is what dominion is all about. Hitler is a wonderful example of a world that domination creates.

I awoke to this quote:

He who experiences the unity of life sees his own Self in
all beings, and all beings in his own Self, and looks on
everything with an impartial eye.

Bhagavad Gita

And then a friend sent me a link to this video. It was one of the most powerful images of domination in action and the healing power of dominion. I highly recommend you watch it! May your day be full of love, happiness and joy. What a world this would be if all of us made living in dominion a thing of the past and chose love instead.

A wonderful exercise is to lovingly notice any of your judgments and ask yourself, “How can I see this through the eyes of love?”

With love and aloha,

Many of you are probably familiar with the poem Footprints. After yesterday’s photo I just couldn’t resist sharing this parody with you. As I have explored Toltec Wisdom I have found the act of surrendering my beliefs, my rigid thinking, my limitations and my way of doing things to be an on going process.

When I was going through a particularly challenging period of time a friend sent me this. Not only did I laugh but the image helped me to let go with a bit more ease and grace.

One night I had a wondrous dream,
A set of prints on the sand was seen,
The footprints of my precious Lord,
Yet mine were not along the shore.
But then a stranger print appeared.

I asked the Lord, “What have we here?
This print is large and round and neat,
But Lord, it’s just too big for feet.”

“My child,” He said in somber tones,
“For miles I carried you alone.
I challenged you to seek My face,
Take up your cross and walk in grace.”

“You disobeyed, you would not grow.
You would not stand against the flow.
Your neck was stiff, your ears were shut,
So there I dropped you on your butt.”

“Because in life there comes a time,
When one must fight, when one must climb,
When one must rise and take a stand,
Or leave one’s butt-prints in the sand.”

-Anonymous

So perhaps practice the art of letting go, trusting the process and going with the flow. Everything is pono (perfect) until we tell ourselves otherwise.

With love and aloha,
Susan
